What Must I Do To Be Saved?
This question was asked by the jailer at Philippi in Acts chapter 16. Many have asked this same question through the years. If your are desiring to trust Jesus as your personal Savior, this is what you need to know.
1. Man is a sinner and separated from God.
" For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23. Not only You, but all people have sinned against God. This means that no one will ever deserve to go to heaven because they were good.
" For the wages of sin is death..." Romans 6:23a The payment for our sin is death. But, not just a physical death but a spiritual death which is eternal separation from God.
" And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelations 21:14,15.
2. Jesus Christ is God's only provision for man's sin.
"...but the gift of God is eternal life though Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23b Jesus is the only answer for man's sin. Jesus said in John 14:6 " I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father, but by me." There is no other way of salvation except by accepting Jesus as your Savior. He died on the cross to pay your debt for sin so you wouldn't have to. But, only those who trust Him as Savior receive the gift of eternal life.
3. You must personally receive Jesus as your Savior by faith.
" For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13
" For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
Receiving Jesus as your Savior involves turning from sin to God (Repentance) and trusting Jesus to save you. You cannot be good enough to earn salvation. It is a gift freely given by God to those who trust Jesus as their Savior. Won't you trust Jesus today?
Dear God in heaven, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve to go to hell. I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins. I now accept you Jesus as my Savior. Thanks you for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
